Dangers of Ignoring Periodontal Disease
In this video, Austin cosmetic and implant dentist Dr. Brandon Hall explains the oral and systemic effects of advanced periodontal disease when it goes untreated.
What are the dangers of not treating periodontal disease or gum disease? It’s a chronic infection in your gums, and the end result is tooth loss. So if it’s not treated, and it can be treated at multiple stages; from early, middle, even to severe gum disease can still be treated. But if you don’t treat it, you’re going to lose teeth and you’re going to have pain and infection and abscess.
So sometimes patients will come in and they have a big abscess with a big, aggressive, swollen, painful infection. That’s something that’s really severe and needs to be addressed right away. If you’re having any of those other symptoms that are minor, definitely come in and have that treated.
